Bottle Drying Rack
When we got to the bottling phase of mead making we discovered it takes a lot of time and counter space to dry bottles after sanitizing and rinsing, so I made a rack for drying bottles.   We usually use 1 Liter bottles so 24 is suffucient to hold a full carboy.

I had 4 pieces of wood approximately 1x2" and 24" long (left over from another project) and 1 Liter bottles are about 4" in diameter so each bar would hold 6 bottles and 4 bars would be 24 bottles (more than enough to hold 6 gals). These would be the bottle support bars.     I drilled a 1/2" hole every 4" starting 2" from the end then another 1/2" in the bottom 1" from each end.   Next I cut two 14" long bars and drilled a 1/2" hole every 4", these would be the base support under each end of the longer bottle bars.   I cut 1/2" dowels 3" long to go into the bottles necks.   The bottom bars each have four 1/2" dowels 2" long to go into the bottom of the bottle support bars.   After drilling the bottle support bars and base support bars for the 1/2" dowels, I rounded off the corners to allow for better draining.

Carboy Drying Rack
I needed something to hold carboys upside down and let them drain after washing, so I came up with a simple fixture.
It consists of a 1x6 and a 2x6 laminated together then cut a 5" diameter circle from the laminated wood.   Next I drilled a 2-1/2" hole in the center of the 2-1/4" thick disk and glued two 9-1/4" 1x2s to the bottom.   The length of the 1x2 is about the diameter of a large carboy.   Last I painted the heck out of it (polyurethane) since it'll get really wet.   Link to

The 4 bottle support bars are 24" long and being marked every 4".   The first mark is 2" from the end.

Support bars, one drilled with pilot holes, the others marked.

All bars with 1/2" dowels installed.   The spacing on all dowels is 4" making the longer bottle support bars 24" long and the shorter cross bars 14".

Bottle support bars on left and base pieces on right.   Notice how they are rounded on top to promote drainage.

Under side of a bottle support bar showing hole for dowel in end piece.   The dowels in the base are only glued to the base not the bottle support bars so the assembly will swivel for storage.

Here is the drying rack test fit.

A little closer look at the bottle support bars mounted on the end.   You can see how the bottle support bars set up off the base bars just a little so they pivot easier and water can dry off a little easier.

All pieces painted one coat.

Fitting the bottle support bar onto a base (seen from the bottom).

First bottle support bar in place.

The bottle support bars don't quite touch the base so it can fold for storage.

Folded for storage.

Carboy Drying Support
Carboy Drying Support being painted.   You can see its made of a 1x6 and a 2x6 laminated together, sawed into a 5" cicrle with a 2-1/2" hole drilled in the center and two 1x2s screwed on as support bars.   The small hole is for the neck of a 6-1/2gal. or smaller carboy and the 5" circle is fits inside the mouth of a Big Mouth Bubbler.   The 1x2 support bars on the bottom support rack and carboy while drying.   I put a good coat of polyurethane since this thing gets really wet when a carboy is placed on it to dry.

Closer look at 6-1/2 gal. Better Bottle in drying position.   Notice how it's neck fits into the 2-1/2" hole, almost any smaller carboy would also fit.

Closer look at Big Mouth Bubbler drying, notice how it's neck fits over the 5" diameter circle.
