Piggy Bank
|
I always wanted to make a woodwen Piggy Bank for the grandkids, so here goes!
After thinking about it for over a year, I have come up with a decent design, I think.
This thing must be durable (to withstand kids) and look something like a pig, fortunately, kids have good imaginations.
Steps:
-
Laminate 1-1/2" thick SYP to make 3" and 2" thick blocks, bandsaw them into 3" circles, then turn the rump & head with a rabbet for the side slats.
-
The pig's body will be made of 1/2" wide X 4" long X 1/8" thick slats (19) glued into the rabbets on head & rump.
-
Make 1/8" thick plywood circles, about 3/4" in diameter, for the nose and tail, paint the nostrils and tail on the circles then glue them to the head & rump..
-
I could make a rump ring that the slats glue to in the rump, then thread the turned rump into the rump ring as a door to remove coins.
-
Saw mouth into the head.
-
Use 1/2" dowels as legs.
-
1/8" thick plywood ears, glued to a 3/8" or 5/16" dowel which is glued into holes in the head.
