I originally used two kinds of push sticks, one made of plastic and the other made of wood.
The plastic one was a Bench Dog, Push-Loc which I purchased from Rockler.
After a few years the plastic push stick got too chewed up on the end to be of much use so in a few minutes time I made another from wood.
The other push stick is home made, from thin plywood .
I used a yellow pine 1x3 scrap (left over from another proj), traced the general outline of the magnetic push stick onto it, applied my band saw, sander and router round off bit and voila, a new push stick.
The Push Board came a little later, I needed something to push a very narrow cut through the saw.
I found a piece of 5/16 plywood (1/4" would be OK) and eyeballed some dimensions and the push board was born.

PushStick

This is a 1x3 I cut out from a 2x8 yellow pine.
It is actaully 11/16" thick and 3" wide.
I'm using the bandsaw to cut out the shape.
Note I've already cut the end notch, be sure its 90°.
You could use a jig saw to do this if you don't have a bandsaw.
All bandsawed out.
I sanded out the bandsaw marks using a spindle sander.
Then rounded the corners using a 1/4" roundoff bit in a router.

Finished push stick with ruler for scale.
It's comfortable to hold.
