Drop Leaf Dining Table
Construction Finished

Betty had been fussing about the small dining table we had wasn't big enough for company.   Our house is small and normally just the two of us ate breakfast while reading the paper here.   So I started thinking about a drop leaf table and suggested some shapes to her.   She liked the rectangular with rounded corners but the same size as our other table when the leaves were down.   I wanted drawers (naturally) for storing place mats, silverware, napkins, etc.   We both like pine with knots (they lend character).   So here is what I came up with.

This is an Edge Joining Project.   The top and leaves are both made by edge joining multiple boards.

Construction

Being painted.   The sheet of plywood in the background is for the next mobile loading bench.

Being painted 2.

Bottom showing drawer guide supports.

Another shot of the bottom.   You can also see the Rockler drop leaf supports and hinges.   These are really nice supports, easy to drop, pull up the leaf to raise, and they are adjustable.

Front edge with drawer holes.

Leg supports.

Finished

In the dining room with the leaves dropped, drawers not installed yet.

How it looks with the leaves up.   You can also see the door to the storage cabinet in the left rear corner.

With the drawers, I finally got through with Bill's project and got to finish the table.

The other side.

One of the drawers open.   They are for place mats, napkins and such.

Drawer pulls don't stick out beyond the table edge.
