Political Parties

The Democrats, after Biden's election, as usual are moving more to the left and overreaching.   But, at least they are built around policys.

The Republicans, however, seem to be built around a single personality, Donald Trump, a person of low moral character, who has no policies, except his own betterment, is a blatant liar, is someone who politicized most of the departments in the excutive branch, and is willing to stop at nothing to give himself power, even to try to sidestep our constitution.
The Republicans, running the governemnt, here in Texas are passing laws to restrict voting, after promulgating the popular Republican lie that there is rampant voter fraud.
Yesterday I heard, on the news, that the Republican legislature is trying to restrict the Governor (Republican Greg Abbott) from having the power to shut down businesses during a COVID-19 surge.   Now Abbott has, in general, towed the Republican mark, but he did, finally, shutdown businesses during the first "COVID surge", of course he used some "apples to pecans" logic to re-open them way too soon.
All in all I would say the Republicans have ceased being an American political party and are currently carrying out personal and businesses agendas.

The electrical power grid, in Texas, is managed by ERCOT( Electrical Reliability Council of Texas) which was the motivating cause of the Texas electrical power problems during the February 2021 cold snap.   ERCOT is overseen by a board appointed by the governor, these folks (none of whom live in Texas) were appointed by the Texas governor, apparently they were all good campaign contributors.   Most of the ERCOT board resigned after the Feb 2021 power debacle.   I consider ERCOT, it's board, and the Texas legislature to be incompetent, at elase in power management.   One note, ERCOT announced "rolling blackouts" during the Feb. 2021 cold snap, but it only rolled about two turns when the rolling failed, some folks were out of power for days.   I discovered that after our power had been down for over an hour, I could call reporting "lights out" and after an hour or two the power would come back on for an hour.   So we limped along for sevreal days calling about every two hours to get an hour of power.   The goal of ERCOT in Texas has always been to get the cheapest Killowat Hour price.   The Republican legislature, in Texas, deregulated the power years ago and established ERCOT.   The cold snap problem was caused by there being no financial incentive for power companies to keep up their part of the system (like winterizing).   Same goes for the natural gas industry which powers most of the power plants in Texas as well as providing natural gas for homes and businesses.
At the time ERCOT was established (1970) the Texas Legislature was adamant about keeping control of the power grid and keeping the feds out.   However the feds seem to have decent policies and do a reasonable job, better than ERCOT, I think Texas would be better off being part of the National Electrical Grid.
