Carboy Rack
Diagram         Pics

We decided we needed more age time on our mead which, in turn, meant more space for carboys and bottles while the mead is aging.   The only space availiable was in the office, so I started planning then drawing.

The Big Mouth Bubbler(6-1/2gal) is 11" in diameter and 22" high.
The Better Bottle (6gal) is 11-1/2" X 20"
Since they don't sell the large Better Bottles anymore and the replacements aren't as clear, we'll probably only be getting Big Mouth Bubblers from now on.   We use the universal lid for the Big Mouth Bubblers (it seals better).   We have 5 Bubblers, 3 Better Bottles, and a 6-1/2 gal. fermenter.   And storage racks for 92 one Liter bottles.

This diagram is for an 8 Big Mouth Bubbler carboy (6-1/2 gal.) rack, 4 down and 4 up.

Shelf pieces cut to lenght and slotted for biscuits.

Both shelves in the glue clamps.

Frames in the glue glamps.

All three frame pieces, glued and sanded.

Gluing the bottom frame.

Gluing/Screwing the frame sides to the bottom.   Since I am actually screwing the parts together with glue, the clamps just hold everything lined up while I drill / screw.

Back glued / nailed on.

Ready to paint.

I'll paint the bottom and back first.

Painted, ready to use.

Finished, sitting in our office.

A couple of carboys aging on the new rack.   We have 4 more, aging and one fermenting in the utility room.
