Primer Tool Holder

I use the RCBS Universal Hand Primer Tool which works great, but where do you lay it down between cases using the turret press as described in Techniques.
I came up with a little wooden holder which holds the tool at an angle so the primers in the tray stay at the point where they feed into the seater mechanism.   I place it on the loading shelf with the empty cases next to it.   This makes it fast to pick up a case, place it in the primer tool and prime it, then put the case into the shellholder and still keep the bullets and ammo box close to the press.

There are two different hand primer tools made by RCBS, one is called the Universal and will hold any shell base with out a shellholder, the other requires a specific shellholder for each different caliber, just like the press.

The Primer Tool Holder is built on a base of 3/4" Plywood, 4-1/8" wide by 5-1/2" long.   The large top block is a 2x4 ripped to 1-1/2" by 1-1/2" and 5-1/2" long.   The small long top block is a 1x2" by 5-1/2" long, and the two short blocks are 1x2" 1-7/8" long.   I drilled a 3/8" hole to hang it on a nail at the right top of the loading bay.

Top view of one of the Primer Tool Holders (I made several).   You can see the mounting hole at the top, I hang it in the top of the loading bay.

Here you see one hanging, on a screw, at the back of the loading bay on my loading bench.

Primer tool sitting in holder from right side.   Note the primer tool leans slightly to the left (away from us) so the primers can flow down into the primer ram area.   This also keeps the center of gravity slightly to the left over the larger part of the holder.

As it is used with the shim installed.

How I use it, on the loading shelf and in relation to the press.

In action.   The 3/8" shim at the bottom seems to work better with the Universal Hand Primer Tool.   The regular hand primer tool works better without it.   Here is a link to a load sequence showing more detail about how to use the primer tool holder
