USS Cavalla USS Stewart
Seawolf Park Galveston

02/27/16: Page Origin

Seawolf Park in Galveston is dedicated to undersea warfare.   It is the home of the USS Cavalla, and the USS Stewart.

Scroll down to see the ships.

Since the park is at the East end of Galveston Island there are lots of ships all around, all the time.

USS Tautog (SSN-639)'s sail.   The Tautog 639, was a nuclear submarine which served from 17 August 1968 until 31 March 1997.

Jus offshore, several tankers reload.

The USS Stewart DE-238 and the USS Cavalla SSN-244.   Note the torpedo, in the foreground.

The Cavalla.

Plaque dedicated to the Seawolf SS-197, for which the park is named.

The plaque is enough.

Another dedication to all the services with the Stewart in the background.

Seen from another angle with the Cavalla in the background.

I'm not sure whow Al is but this torpedo appears to be in the process of launching from the after torpedo room of the Cavalla.

The sail (Conning Tower) of the Tautog, SSN-639, a nuclear sub.

The Cavalla, from the port side, was built during WW-II as a fleet sub and after the war decomissioned the recomissioned for cold war duties.
