Over the years I have found a few indian artifacts.   Many years ago, my next door nieghbor, Leo Faciane (sp), asked me to go with him to a gravel quarry South East of Mesquite.   Leo worked for Texas Industries (who hauled and sold qravel/sand/etc.   Leo enjoyed arrow head hunting in TXI's quarrys.  
On this trip, he found many bird points (small arrow heads), the only thing I could find was the spear point.   Leo was very excited about it and took it to a professor at SMU.

I think the spear point is made from flint, but I had never seen a piece of flint with the red area.

The flip side, I believe the grey area is flint.
